Messages of solidarity and support for the people of Sipson and others living in the vicinity of Heathrow Airport have flooded into our Campaign Office following the Government's announcement yesterday to press ahead with a third runway there.

They reinforce Stop Stansted Expansion's view that this has been a sham consultation whose outcome is morally unjustifiable, not least in terms of:

- the proposed displacement of some 700 families and the terrible living conditions that would be imposed on those who remain

- the impacts of the noise from overflying on millions more who live under the Heathrow flightpaths and the seriousness of the damage to air quality

- the climate change legacy which would be created by a third runway.

We stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the Heathrow community in opposing the third runway, just as they have reinforced our fight against a second runway at Stansted whose impacts would also be devastating.
