CALENDAR TEAM EFFORTS RAISE OVER £20,000 FOR STOP STANSTED EXPANSION
Ray Woodcock, Janice and Ken McDonald, Sarah Freeborn and Ralph Phillips (shown L to R in the above picture) were the five top sellers of the 2006
Community Calendar and Christmas cards produced and sold in aid of Stop
Stansted Expansion (SSE) - seen here following a New Year sortie to Bishop's
Stortford.
The initiative is expected to enable the volunteer team to donate a record
£23,000 to the campaign fighting fund. The calendar, now in its 4th year,
is also a powerful daily reminder of the communities, countryside and
heritage threatened by expansion plans for the airport.
Sales of the 2006 Community Calendar have already outstripped last year's
success thanks to the efforts of more than 50 volunteer door-to-door sellers
and the staff and owners of 35 local shops, garden centres, pubs and
information centres.
SSE Chairman Peter Sanders paid tribute to the efforts of all those
involved, saying: “We are tremendously grateful to Ken McDonald and his
team for their commitment to raising awareness and funds for SSE. Their
dedication has done a great deal to reinforce our campaign to overturn BAA's
proposals for the mass desecration of heritage, countryside and the
environment at large which would so compromise people's quality of life and
community well-being.”
Most of the 8000 Community Calendars have now been sold although limited
stocks are still available from the Stop Stansted Expansion campaign office.

NOTE TO EDITORS
The Community Calendar has become an established part of life for many
people in the parts of Essex and Hertfordshire that surround Stansted
Airport. It features photos of this attractive area, selected from work
submitted by over 20 photographers. There is always keen interest in which
towns and villages have been chosen to appear. This time they range from
Ware in the west to Felsted in the east, and from Saffron Walden in the
north to Harlow in the south. Other places featured are Thaxted, Bishop's
Stortford, Great Hallingbury, Great Dunmow, Sawbridgeworth, Widdington,
Pleshey, Stansted Mountfitchet and Great Sampford.
