TRUE GRIT FROM SSE FUN RUNNERS

A 21-strong team of Stop Stansted Expansion (SSE) supporters donned running
shoes and campaign t-shirts on Bank Holiday Monday (30 May) to take part in
the annual Hatfield Broad Oak 10km Fun Run, raising over £1750 sponsorship
for the SSE fighting fund through their efforts.
The intrepid team members had trained long and hard for the event, often
suffering considerable pain in the process, since it was the first Fun Run
most of them had ever entered. Even a full-blown thunderstorm halfway
through the event didn't dampen the team's determination. In all, the
village-based Fun Run attracted some 1300 participants, many raising money
for local causes.
The inspiration for the SSE team came from a Hatfield Broad Oak supporter,
Gary White, who thought that putting together a team for the locally run
event over a manageable distance might tempt those without previous
experience to raise both awareness and funds for the continuing fight
against the massive expansion of Stansted in the process.
“Every team member showed true grit in entering the Fun Run and
demonstrating their support for the SSE campaign,” said Gary. “Their
perseverance is an example to everyone of what can be achieved if you set
your sights firmly on your goal and take practical steps to achieve it.”
