BOOST TO FIGHTING FUNDS FOR STOP STANSTED EXPANSION
Two fundraising events in aid of Stop Stansted Expansion on Saturday (19
February) raised over £1400 for campaign fighting funds.
"Wizard of Oz" at the Gardens of Easton Lodge attracted some 300 adults and
children to take part in an afternoon of fun and games amid the carpet of
snowdrops which cover the historic gardens at this time of year. Snow
flurries added to the atmosphere as Dorothy and the Wizard entertained
children of all ages and their parents with crystal gazing, magic and team
races.
Meanwhile, 111 people packed into "The Hut", Broxted's village hall, this
Saturday for a quiz night in aid of Stop Stansted Expansion, raising £1063
through their efforts. The quiz - planned for several months - was sold out
weeks ago to those determined to lend support to the SSE campaign.
Organisers Phyllis and Roger Clark were delighted by the result. "We've
been overwhelmed by people's generosity and the way in which the community
has responded in a practical way to support the ongoing fight against the
airport expansion proposals. Dozens of raffle prizes were donated including
several bottles of good quality Scotch Whisky which obviously provided an
excellent incentive!"
Details of future events can be found on the SSE website
or obtained from the campaign office on 01279 870558.
