Press Release - 9 February 2005 |
JUDICIAL REVIEW CHALLENGE: DECISION DUE FRIDAY 18 FEBRUARY
We have been advised that the result of our challenge to the Government's Air Transport White Paper will be handed down by Mr Justice Sullivan at the High Court at around 10am or shortly thereafter on Friday 18 February.
Stop Stansted Expansion supporters will be travelling to the London for the judgement and to show that whatever the outcome of the Judicial Review, the fight will go on until proposals for creating the world's largest airport at Stansted are finally defeated. There will be photo opportunities with campaigners before going into court (from around 9am) and once the result is known later that morning.
We are under no illusions about the scale of the challenge of overturning the White Paper and to succeed would be a momentous achievement. However, there is no doubt at all that the Judicial Review has already provided extremely valuable ammunition to Stop Stansted Expansion for future attacks through the UK and EU legal system, in the City on commercial viability grounds and via the planning process. Our fight will go on – whatever it takes – until we ultimately force BAA and the Government to abandon its plans.
