Campaigning against proposals to expand Stansted Airport

WEBSITE PANORAMAS BRING EXPANSION THREAT TO LIFE

Six moving panoramic views showing the countryside and homes threatened by proposals to turn Stansted into the world's largest airport have been created for those with access to the Internet on this website at www.stopstanstedexpansion.com/panoramas.html

Accessed via a map showing their location within the area that would be needed for an enlarged airport, the panoramas give an immediate feel for the scale of the heritage and wildlife loss that would occur if expansion were allowed to go ahead.  They are a powerful reminder of the reasons behind the continued fight by not only the Stop Stansted Expansion campaign but local MPs, MEPs, heritage groups, including the National Trust, and parish, district and local councils.

The 360 degree views show the areas around Moor End Farm (Broxted), Broxted Hill, the River Roding, Bamber's Green, Molehill Green and Browns End Road (Broxted) and are designed to give those who aren't familiar with the area a feel for what is at stake.

The SSE webmaster Peter Riding, who filmed the panoramas and worked with technical expert Kevin Sullivan who volunteered his services for the programming, made clear what was at stake:  “The panoramas are an important reminder of the massive land grab that BAA is demanding be sacrificed in the name of short term profit.  That the airport operator is even prepared to contemplate the wholesale destruction of so much of our heritage to fulfil its own expansionist ambitions shows how little regard BAA actually has for this community and the birthright of future generations.”

Many of the views will be seen in person by those joining this year's mass protest hike the Runway Ramble 2004 on Sunday 12 September which aims to give walkers first hand experience of what is in jeopardy.  Those taking part are also being encouraged to collect sponsorship for their efforts in aid of the fighting fund for the Judicial Review legal costs as an optional extra.

Three circular walks of 10, 7 and 5 miles have been organised, together with a mini 1km walk for those who want to put their best foot forward but can't manage the longer walks. (The 7 and 5 mile walks are both suitable for pushchairs and assisted wheelchairs.)  Entertainment, a barbecue and beer tent at the start/end point at Molehill Green will be the focus of the day from lunchtime and give sustenance to those completing one of the walks.

More details including route maps and sponsorship forms are available from the SSE Campaign Office on 01279 870558 or from Coming Events.
